Blog gets a facelift -- Cure is a Curse.

After many years of 'where wild tarus roam' having its signature Vacious banner, I've decided to revamp it all.. Considering the fact that Vacious doesn't exist in XI form anymore..

Anyway!

I've removed all of the XI info (obviously) and updated it all to FFXIV form.
----
The November Update came yesterday for Final Fantasy XIV, and I must say, so far, it makes the game. I hear that Party SP is messed up, but I'm sure it will be fixed quickly. Solo and Leve SP is fantastic! I've gotten a good chunk of levels within a few hours. The UI is infinitely better, you can sort items now(!), everything loads faster... the update was a great improvement.

Now to the rest of what the title implies!

I've made some substantial gains, such as Conjurer to 16, Thaumaturge to 10, and others ranging from 4 to 8, then Weaver & Goldsmith to 8 each, Carpenter to 10. What's funny is, I started as an Archer.
I had no intention of being a Mage whatsoever. Oh, another funny thing- I restarted (AGAIN!) in Gridania.

I can't stay away from the forest- the elementals, the magick.. So, after like 6 restarts... I kept one. I joined a linkshell with Resheph, and so far they've been great! Everyone's courteous and helpful. Today, I joined a few members in doing some lv.20 Leves. Two Gladiators, one Marauder, and me, the Conjurer. In all my leveling (all solo), Cure has just been a "don't die" tactic while I nuked & attacked lots of little squirrels to squirrely oblivion. Well... in groups of course, you become the Curebot. Now, I didn't mind! I knew I was the only healer, and I was happy to do it. But after almost 2 hours... my Lalafell brain was fried from spamming Cure. Of course, being the only job to actually get Cure, I should know from XI experience that my role will be 99% of the time.

That will end up turning me off of partying as Conjurer.

I didn't level WHM in XI because, well, I hated it. I didn't level RDM in XI past sub because I didn't want to be a Little Red Curebot. I solo'd Summoner almost my entire life because I didn't want to be a gimp WHM, only loved for my sub.

Needless to say, I don't want to be sought after as just a healer. I am certain that will be the "DUH" to seeking party on Conjurer (i.e. if a WHM seeks party, guess what they do?!). I guess we'll see.

In other news, I've been working on the Gridania story. It's better than I gave it credit for.. once you get to the Lv.15 quest. That was pretty cool. I look forward to continuing and completing this story.

I miss Final Fantasy XI's music. Most of the XIV music I can't tell apart. I know it's Nobuo's and I adore his work, but... this music is... dare I say, weak? In comparison to XI and his other work. I can't remember one song from the other. But you knew when you were in Windurst, or Zi'Tah, or in a crafty sneaky tarutaru cutscene... /sigh

Man I miss Windurst. Have I ever said that? No? Thought I'd cover it. Windurst was just... perfect to me. They were intrinsic, they breathed elementals, they read the stars to lead a Nation.. They were so firm in their beliefs, the stars would lead them.. what a fantastic story. Gridania seems very concrete, where Windurst seemed so metaphysical. Of course, Gridania focuses on the Elementals, but it's nothing like Windurst. The elementals are a DUH in Gridania, but having a soul seems to escape them.

A S.E. Lover's patience is wearing VERY thin.

Ugh. I have spent all morning trying to level up on XIV.

Oh, this mob is (in XI terms) IT? Cool. *kills it, taking forever* You gain 20 Hand-to-Hand skill points.

Nice.

I've been the optimist in this since the start. But even my patience is growing thin. Skill points are too sporadic- there needs to be a standard system like in XI for this nonsense. I could kill stuff for hours and not actually level?? Physical level, sure, but that isn't helping my current job, especially with the absurd point caps. Why even allow me to pile points in if it doesn't actually have an effect? Oi. Yay for doing the same thing over. And over. And over. In XI, even if I killed a million crawlers, I knew I was gonna get that EXP. I knew I was going to level. I knew I'd get credit for a kill in a normal damned situation.

This is starting to make my head hurt.

Another little lalafell, playing in the sand.

I am notorious for deleting and re-creating characters (ask Resheph about my FFXI history. XD ).

After getting GridaniaVacious to Physical Level 20, getting all jobs to 10, and 3 crafts to 15, I deleted him. I remade him in Ul'dah, and so far I LOVE it.

The story is great, and I find I actually like the desert terrain. It's a beautiful place. I've been working on Pugilist again, with a few other jobs up for useful things like Sacrifice and Cure. I'm trying to focus in and get ONE job up for now, but I'm finding all those abilities I had before were really useful and I had a lot of wiggle room. Chances are, I'll do the Set-Level thing again and get everything to that point. There's no rush per se, but I'd like to actually advance, especially considering that the storyline missions are level-based.

I haven't had a lot of desire to play lately, though...

One thing I will say, and I've said it before-- so far, Eorzea just doesn't feel like Vana'Diel. I'm going to keep on and give it a chance to develop, but game-wise, story-wise, control-wise, it just doesn't capture me like FFXI did. Maybe I'm over MMOs? I have no plans to ever return to Vana'Diel, especially considering that I have no desire (or the time) to spend hours upon hours in Abyssea, which seems to be the complete state of XI. /endrant
